I am writing to apply for a position as a trainee actuary with Big Insurance. I understand that Big Insurance is the market leader in pension fund management solutions and has an excellent reputation for its professional training. I am very interested in how mathematics is applied to real world situations. Discussions with experienced actuaries and my own research have confirmed my belief that Fellowship of the Institute of Actuaries is best able to accomplish my ambitions. The FIA qualification is widely respected as a mark of sound technical expertise, integrity and professionalism and offers a wealth of opportunity and choice. | Says why she wants to work for the company: evidence that she has done her research. I have always had an interest in insurance, and my degree helped to further this interest. The modules I took involved many aspects of the financial world, and in my second year I completed modules specific to Pension Funds and Life Assurance. These modules contained research projects assessed by two extended essays. I have obtained a First in several of my modules including 82% on Stochastic Processes and my course has involved learning Prophet. I am well on course for exemptions from several of the Institute’s exams. | Sells her degree course
I am hard working and highly motivated. I enjoy acquiring new skills; I enjoy problem solving and I am a fast learner. I was required in my summer job as a financial adviser to be adept in delivering advice to clients in a clear, simple and succinct manner. It is the ability to communicate complex solutions and ideas in simple terms that I have most developed. At Smith & Smith I developed my communication skills further, dealing with customers and the local community both over the phone and in person. I was involved in computer projects, including creating and adapting Excel models, and testing company specific software, for which I had to report my findings to the Chief Accountant so that changes or improvements could be made. I was also involved with basic financial tasks, and this has helped to further my interest in the area. | Summarises her strengths and how they might be an advantage to the organisation.
I would be most grateful if you could consider me for any suitable positions available within your company and enclose my CV. I am available for interview at any time and look forward to hearing from you. Yours sincerely Rosalind Franklin | Thanks the employer and mentions an enclosedCV.
